Fraxiom "BRIAN THOMPSON"
SELF-RELEASED | 2026
by Steven Logan
“BRIAN THOMPSON” is packed with what makes Fraxiom’s music so brilliant - the hilarious one-two punch lyrical moments (“Go ahead, fill him up like chimichanga/ I watch his balls go swangalanga” is so powerful), meta side-tangents (the outro, which has Frax openly questioning if their producers Ava and Musas hate them), and the provocative political comedy (the entire incredible second #darkwoke verse).
But if you listen closer, there’s also a looseness that shines through in the fun vocal experimentation and affects that bounce off the synth stabs and police sirens of the production. Fraxiom’s delivery has never lacked brash confidence, but this feels more lived in and grown-up. without losing any of her classic absurdity. The last section of the track is especially a confirmation that she’s still having fun with it after impressive early career success. That string of “And I'm proud that I'm making rap and do it my way/And I'm proud that I call my mom and talk the same way/And I'm proud that they like it even when they're not gay” got me all giggly and smiley.
Fraxiom’s debut album The Adventures of Jester Jackalope comes out this Friday, January 30. “BRIAN THOMPSON” is the second single from the album, following “OK GO” at the end of last year.
